About the Center

Purpose of Establishment

Since its establishment in 2005 at Tamkang University’s Lanyang Campus, the center for Holistic Education has had more than 17 years of experience with significant influence. Amongst the center’s many achievements, the planning done for studying abroad in the junior year of college has achieved remarkable, nation leading results. Over 2,000 students have successfully completed their studies abroad in their junior year of college, spread throughout sister schools around the world, deeply cultivating the concept of internationalization at Tamkang University, which has long been a unique part of the university’s culture.

In order to continue Lanyang Campus’s unique characteristic of holistic education, and its continuous promotion at Tamsui Campus, the Center for Holistic Education was established in 2023 with the aim of implementing plans and policies such as "all English teaching, all studying abroad in the junior year of college, and all residential campus." It also plans to implement the whole-person development curriculum of the Holistic Education bachelor's program, study abroad counseling, and all residential campus activities to cultivate high-quality professionals with international competitiveness, social participation, interpersonal interaction, and other strengths.

Through the Junior Abroad Program, we help students broaden their international horizons, as well as enrich their international learning experience; Through the English-Taught Program and counseling mechanism, we strengthen students' English language skills, help them improve their international language communication and expression skills, as well as making sure that students transit smoothly into their junior-year abroad, laying the foundation for internationalization; through the planning of residential college programs and activities, we promote the practice of local internationalization, cultivate students' independent learning and cross-disciplinary thinking, as well as active engagement in social participation to promote whole-person development.

 

Future Prospects

Continuously expanding "Holistic Education" as a unique feature of Tamkang's culture, breaking down the boundaries between colleges, constructing a Holistic learning and living circle, connecting accommodation with courses and activities, so that learning is no longer confined within the space of a classroom, creating a flipped learning space in Tamkang International College.

§  Increasing the promotion of Holistic Education's all-English bachelor's programs: Currently, the departments that implement Holistic Education are the English-taught programs of the Department of Information Engineering, Department of English, Department of International Tourism Management, and Department of Global Political Economy, and in the future, the Department of Business Management's all-English program is expected to be added.  

§  Opening whole-person development courses for students from other English-taught bachelor's programs to select (such as Diplomacy, State-Owned Enterprises, and Finance).  

§  Integrate the university's Junior Year Abroad Program and exchange student counseling system, adopting a single window operation + multi-point service model. 

§  Expanding the Holistic Education residential campus activities to all Tamkang International Campus dormitory residents.
